Spahr Metric, Inc. Company History
If it is true that experience brings wisdom, then Spahr Metric, Inc. knows a thing or two about fasteners and steel. With beginnings in Switzerland over 108 years ago, Spahr Metric established its U.S. office in Winchester, Virginia in 1997 after recognizing a need for a more cost effective way to service and distribute products to its U.S. customers.
Spahr’s former owner and current board member, Peter Engeler, started with Spahr + Cie in Switzerland as an intern. Working his way up, he learned everything that he could about the business from the two brothers who founded the company. In 1997, he took over the business, grew its base and expanded to locations in the U.S. and France.
Chantal Aeschbach-Powell, a Swiss native living in Winchester, was brought in to spearhead the opening of the U.S. location. After extensive training under Mr. Engeler in Switzerland, she returned to the U.S. to oversee the ground breaking and construction of the distribution center. The doors of the U.S. office officially opened on September 4th, 1997.
After operating in the U.S. for over eight years, expanding its customer base (which has more than quadrupled), and soaking up over 108 years of extensive market knowledge - in late 2004, Spahr Metric, Inc. Winchester detached from its Swiss parent company. Chantal Aeschbach-Powell, the former VP who spearheaded the start-up of the Winchester Office, became a partner and President/CEO of the business in 2010. Most recently, in December 2012, Spahr Metric registered as a small woman owned business with the U.S. SBA and can be found on the buyers guide for Government procurement. Spahr is also listed with the Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE) in Virginia.
Expansion and changes aside, our future success still lies in the experience and knowledge garnered from our past and the personal attention we guarantee to each and every customer along the way. We remain a customer committed company. Dedicated to quality, pride, honesty and complete customer satisfaction.
